W.W. HENRY HELPS TO IMPROVE INDOOR AIR QUALITY ON CRUISE SHIP
-W.W. HENRY's Revolutionary Environmentally Preferred GreenLine Product Installed On New American Canadian Caribbean Line Cruise Ship-
Aliquippa, Pa. (June 24, 2002) - Leading flooring adhesive manufacturer W.W. Henry announced today that the company's state-of-the-art GreenLine™ GL62 high-performance, environmentally preferred carpet adhesive has been successfully tested and installed on the new American Canadian Caribbean Line cruise ship American Glory. The result of a major technological breakthrough, GreenLine is the first line of high-performance flooring adhesives that has almost no discernible odor and the lowest level of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of any product on the market as measured by Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI) criteria.
"We tested the product in two state rooms," said Finn Sorteberg, ARDEX-W.W. Henry technical manufacturer sales representative for Maryland and Delaware. "The mechanics had to install the carpet over steel decking, which presents a challenge to installers, because it is not a porous substrate. So, they needed to use an adhesive that has a superior bond and would perform well over time."
The American Glory is a 165-foot cruise ship that holds 49 passengers plus crew. The ship was built by Chesapeake Ship Building of Salisbury, Md. for Warren, R.I.-based American Canadian Caribbean Line. Value CarpetOne of Salisbury, Md. supplied and installed the Millikin Laminated Action Bac Carpet that was installed on the ship. A W.W. Henry installation technician was onsite during the cruise ship test installation to provide technical support and assistance.
"The installers noted right away that GL62 looked creamy white and spread extremely easily, unlike conventional glue, but didn't smell like regular adhesives. Considering the cramped quarters of a cruise ship stateroom, they definitely appreciated not having to deal with the strong odor. However, they were even more delighted with the adhesive's grab and bond. Based on the success of the test, the general contractor opted to use GL62 throughout the entire ship."
"We liked the environmental properties of GL62," said Joe Hahner, an installer who works with Value CarpetOne. "It was great to not have to deal with odor while working in such close quarters, especially for me, since I have problems with my sinuses anyway. That is the first time I remember not being congested after an installation. However, it was GL62's performance that really sold us. It has tremendous grab - as good as any conventional adhesive. I would definitely recommend it." HENRY GreenLine GL62 is a hypoallergenic adhesive, less likely to cause an allergic reaction than other adhesives.
Manufacturer tests utilizing the Indoor Air Quality adhesive testing process defined by CRI show that the emissions in GreenLine products are up to 97 percent lower than CRI standards. Designed to provide outstanding performance, GL62 is extremely easy to trowel, has superior bond strength and requires no open time over most substrates. It is formulated to provide long-working time to handle long drops and custom pattern-match carpet installations. GL62 is recommended for all carpet backings, with the exception of vinyl, and is positioned for long-term performance in heavy traffic areas.
"We developed GreenLine with the idea of improving indoor air quality in mind," said Mike Crouch, W.W. Henry executive vice president. "GreenLine makes perfect sense for the hospitality industry, especially cruise line operators, since they have to accommodate guests in small, contained areas. Organizations that are readily exposed to indoor air quality issues should consider using the best environmental products on the market. When it comes to carpet adhesives, GL62 has the lowest emissions and performs better than other environmentally friendly products. More importantly, GL62 performs well - so well that it carries the 'HENRY's Best 10-Year Limited Warranty.'"
GreenLine is new to the world of technology is new to the world and represents the first of what corporate officials anticipate to be many technological breakthroughs from W.W. Henry since the company was acquired by ARDEX Engineered Cements in 2000. W.W. Henry is currently offering free GL62 demonstrations to anyone interested in learning more about the product.
